The purpose of the Osprey Yacht Club (OYC), as stated in its bylaws, is to promote safe boating and to provide for the welfare of the Club at Albemarle Plantation. To address that purpose, OYC has developed safety programs and processes in a number of areas, including severe weather planning, day trip and overnight cruise notification, and general boat handling education. These programs cover all types of boating activities; power boating, sailing, cruising, racing, canoeing, and kayaking.
Severe weather planning and education are covered under separate headings in the OYC main menu. Severe weather includes information about how hurricanes are formed and behave, tips on anchoring in bad conditions, and instructions regarding marina evacuations and ways to safeguard your boat in storms. Education covers such topics as NC Boating Regulations, basic boating know-how, the ‘rules of the road”, and even interactive on-line courses for beginners and advanced boaters. These general boating safety topics are not repeated here.
This tab covers safety topics specific to OYC and our boating area and marina, and serves as the OYC Safety Manual.
Suggestions for additional topics are welcomed; please address them to the Fleet Captain.
